In 2008 IDxEA was asked to finalize the project for a new shopping center in the Alkrimya area in Tripoli, expedite the red tape, and shift the project into the executive phase. This was a very large project with an initial design approved by the Libyan client, and it needed to be completed in a very short time. The first step involved an intense research to understand the legislation and the burocratic procedures; this was made possible thanks to the joint commitment and coordination of numerous local and Italian professionals. This phase centered on assembling the existing studies and charts, as well as producing all the documents required in order to bid for the tender. Finding itself in a completely new situation – the Alkrimya shopping center was to be the first project completed by IDxEA in Libyan territory – the firm handled every aspect of the procedure, from the correspondence with businesses to the drawing up of direct contracts and sub-contracts, along with whatever else was required for the bid, such as the drawing up of rules that would govern the construction site as the work progressed.
From the engineering and design perspective, IDxEA imposed state-of-the-art criteria for the level of technical detail and design, as required by strict international standards. This intervention went hand-in-hand with the executive design of the electrical and mechanical systems as well as many minor structural aspects.
This was an unprecedented challenge in the history of the firm, given the unfamiliar conditions and legislation of another country and the client’s narrow time frame for the project’s completion. Nevertheless, once this challenge was met, it became the gold standard, in terms of quality, for all the Libyan projects that would follow in later years.
